Cysts in the throat that are present at birth, almost always benign

Between angle of the jaw and the SCM - anterior triangle
What causes a branchial cyst
Congenital abnormality where the second branchial cleft fails to form properly
Description of branchial cyst
Round, soft, cystic swelling, non-tender
When do branchial cysts tend to present
After age of 10 most commonly in young adults when cyst becomes notable or infected
Management if there are recurring infections in the branchial cyst
Surgical excision

Infection
Features of thyroglossal cyst
Mobile, NT, soft, fluctuant
Where is a thyroglossal cyst
Midline of the neck, move up and down with the tongue
