CV drugs: angina, MI, thrombosis Flashcards
What drugs are used as first-line treatment of stable angina?
Beta blockers
Calcium Channel Blockers
Cardio-selective beta blocker used in angina?
Atenolol
Mode of action of Atenolol?
Reduces HR and force, lowering myocardium’s oxygen requirements.
Side effects of Atenolol?
Cold peripheries
Fatigue (reduced skeletal muscle perfusion)
Bradycardia
CCB used in angina?
Amlodipine
Mode of action of Amlodipine?
Peripheral arteriolar dilatation - reduces afterload.
Side effects of Amlodipine?
Ankle oedema
Hypotension and dizziness
What drug is used for symptom relief in angina?
Nitrates (GTN spray)
Mode of action of GTN spray?
NO mediates vasodilatation:
-Increases perfusion of ischaemic zones of myocardium
Possible problems with GTN use?
Repeated use can cause tolerance
Drugs used to treat / prevent arterial thrombosis?
Antiplatelet drugs
Antiplatelet drugs used?
Aspirin
Clopidogrel
Tricagrelor
Prasugrel
Drugs used to treat / prevent venous thrombosis?
Anticoagulants
Anticoagulants used?
Warfarin
Low MW Heparin (Dalteparin)
Rivaroxaban
Dabigatran
What is warfarin used for?
DVT
PE
AF
Mode of action of Warfarin?
Blocks clotting factors 2,7,9 and 10
What is Rivaroxaban used for?
DVT
PE
Mode of action of Rivaroxaban?
Clotting factor Xa inhibitor
What drugs are used to treat already formed clots?
Fibrinolytics
Fibrinolytic used in STEMI, PE and stroke?
Streptokinase
Pharmacological treatment of MI?
MONA-C Morphine Oxygen (if <94%) Nitrate Aspirin -Clopidogrel/Tricagrelor/Prasugrel
PCI or Thrombolysis
