Currents Flashcards
1
Q
Longshore currents
A
Waves that approach the coastline at an angle generate a flow of water parallel to the shore line. This moves water along the surf zone and transports sediment.
2
Q
Rip currents
A
Develop when sea water is accumulated along the coastline by incoming waves. Water returning round down the beach are forced below the surface. The fast flowing water can drag people into it.
3
Q
Upswelling
A
Movement of cold water from the deep ocean to the surface. The more dense cold water replaces the warmer surface water and created nutrient rich currents
