A
  • Integrated system (BRT)

  • start = 22,000 passengers, now = 2 million
  • self subsidised
  • only takes 2 years to build
  • peak hour busses every 60 seconds -> in centre, no longer than 400m away
    -80% of commuters use it
  • average bus speed is 19mph on express compared to 12pm on other routes

Slums

A

-still are slums -> illegally built
- collection of rubbish -> for every 5kg of waste collected/recycled = given 1kg of fruit/veg (Green exchange)
- got rid of some slums and build new communities -> got 3 architects, the slum dwellers make up the labour force
- each house is designed to each residents needs
- low interest loans to be able to afford it

  • BRT stops at city limits rather than the suburbs
  • gov spend more on landscaping than housing (10-15% living in sub standard housing)
