Define the term crisis.

A

Crisis: Situation or period in which things are very uncertain, difficult, or painful. Especially a time when action must be taken to avoid complete disasters or break down.

  1. Crisis involves change.
  2. A turning point with potential positive, negative or both effects.
  3. A crisis is a time of relative instability.

A

Stress:

  1. Mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from demanding or adverse situations or circumstances
  2. There is usually an agent causing the stress.

Define Stressor!

A

Stressor:

  1. Life event or transition impacting the family unit that has the potential for changing the family social system.
  2. Defined as distinct from stress
  3. Can occur in any aspect of the family’s life-roles, functions goals.

Please explain the theory from Reuben Hill (1949). (ABCX-Model)

A

ABCX Model shows how the three factors (the ABC components) of a stressor event, the family’s perception of that stressor, and the family’s existing resources interacted to predict the likelihood of a crisis (x) occuring.
