Marriage is the legal union between a man and a woman.

- Economic Security (more people to feed)

- Rebound (Young or old may marry on the rebound from a broken relationship)

In getting married, people have several expectations. Please enumerate 3 of them.

- Undergo certain rituals or rite of passage such as: Engagement, wedding, wedding ceremony and honeymoon.
- Having sexual exclusivity and permance in their relationship
- Making an important legal commitment together

What effect does a rite of passage has on ones social status?
A
It can be viewed as an event that signals change from one social status to another. (Marriage)

In a monogamous marriage (one wife, one husband) , the pledges made assume:

- Permanence (so long as we both shall live)
- Marriages also entails legal commitment
