What is/was the demographics of District Six like?

A
  • Orginially, there were many demographics, very multicultural; england, germany, jews, jamaica, hindus, muslims etc. This is because of the location, was close to the ports so people who arrived on boats settled close
  • However, in 1966 the area was declared a white area because it was prime property, and they wanted Cape Town to be fully white, so District 6 had to go
  • The people were relocated over 15-36km away (60,000 people were moved) in to the Cape Flats
