A
- Previously called Whitechapel Lane, Brick Lane is a street in east London, England, in the Borough of Tower Hamlets.
- Streets are quite narrow because during the time Brick Lane was built (1550s) there was no need for wider streets because there were no automobiles
- The buildings are terraced
- The Buildings are on average 3 stories high

How is Brick Lane being gentrified?
A
- Brick lane will have less independent stores as more multi-chain businesses move in
- It will become more of a tourist destination as a £21.4 million Premier Inn is being built on the site of an old Asian supermarket
- All of this makes the area more expensive to live in overall; shops nearby will start to cater for the tourists, and people’s rent goes up
- However, if you own a shop or a house, your house price will increase, and you will get more customers

- Outrage from the locals and the Cereal Killer CAfe - became a target for anti-gentirfication projects.

- Rich ethnic and religious mix due to migration
- 41% of people are Bangladeshi
- 41.5% are Muslim
- A lower percentage of white British residents
- Notably high proportion of population in 20-40 year bracket.
- It is the curry capital of the UK with 23 curry houses (Used to be 60 in mid 2000s)
