What is the purpose of a critique?
To improve student’s performance and provide them with something constructive with which to work and build upon
What are the characteristics of an effective critique?
FACT COWS
Flexible – fit in tone, technique and content to the occasion and student
Acceptable – with authority, conviction, sincerity and from a position of recognizable competence
Comprehensive – cover a few major or minor points as well as student’s overall strengths and weaknesses
Thoughtful – geared toward the student’s need for self-esteem, recognition and approval from others
Constructive – positive guidance for correcting faults and strengthening weaknesses
Objective
Well organized – follow some pattern of organization
Specific – not so general that student can find nothing to hold on to

What is the difference between critique and evaluation?
An evaluation measures where the student is in the training course.
A critique helps eliminate errors while developing a skill.
What is the purpose of the PTS?
To precisely describe the standards of tests for ratings and certificates. Supplies the instructor with specific performance objectives based on the test standards. Objectives of PTS ensures certification at high level of performance proficiency and safety. Instructors responsibility to train student to PTS standards on student’s worst day.
