Conclusion and theme showed through the character
we are made to feel pity towards Piggy as he is relentlessly bullied despite his intelligence and rationale regarding escaping the island. Piggy is desperate to maintain order within the group, shown through the symbolic use of the conch demonstrating his civility, making it all the more cruel when he is ignored and attacked by the group. His eventual death is cruel, since he is so desperate to leave the island and our pity for him climaxes at this point. By making us sympathise so greatly with Piggy, the author gives us, the reader, a significant insight into how we must respect and listen to intelligent figures, even in the most dire circumstances.
