A
- Protection - Removes criminals from society, preventing harm.
- Retribution - Revenge, so criminal suffers like victim
- Reparation - Repairing damage done through crime.
- Vindication - Prove authority of the law.
- Reformation - Rehabilitating offenders.
- Deterrence - Put people off committing crimes

Fairness in the treatment of people.
