Cranks, Cams, Levers and Linkages Flashcards
1
Q
What are Cranks and Cams?
A
Quite simple devices which convert rotary motion to reciprocating motion
2
Q
What do Cranks do?
A
Convert reciprocating motion to rotary motion
When arranged differently, they can convert rotary motion to linear or reciprocating motion
3
Q
What is a Cam?
A
Device that converts rotary motion into reciprocating motion
4
Q
What is a follower?
A
Rod that moves up and down
Has an object of your choice on top
5
Q
What is a guide?

Holds the follower in place
6
Q
What are the four different types of spring?

A
Can act as levers, mostly transfer one mechanical motion to another
Often used to connect cams to cranks or cams to levers or vice versa
