Cranial nerve I - Olfactory Nerve
Is there any change in your sense of smell?
Cranial nerve II - Optic Nerve
Pupils reactivity. Relative afferent pupillary defect.
Visual acuity.
Visual fields.
Fundoscopy.
Cranial nerve III, IV, VI - Occulomotor Nerve,
Range of eye movements. Diplopia. Nystagmus
Cranial nerve V - Trigeminal Nerve
Sensation to light touch.
Feel for tone of temporalis and masseter muscles.
Jaw opening strength
Corneal reflex.
Cranial nerve VII - Facial Nerve
Raise eyebrows. Close eyes together. Puff cheeks out. Purse lips.
Any change in taste?
Cranial nerve VIII - Vesticularcochlear Nerve
Test hearing by saying a number.
Rinne and webers test
Cranial nerve IX - Glossopharyngeal Nerve
Cranial nerve X - Vagus Nerve
Movement of the soft palate - say “ah” watch for rise of the soft palate.
Cough.
Swallowing.
Cranial nerve XII - Hypoglossal Nerve
Movement of the tongue - stick tongue straight out, move from side to side. Test strength on the inside of the mouth.
