Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Where are the receptors of the olfactory nerve found?
They are found in the roof of the nasal cavity
What structure is supplied by the olfactory nerve?
Nasal cavity
What kind of sensations are registered by the olfactory nerve?
Smell
What kind of nerve is the olfactory nerve?
Sensory nerve
What foramina does the olfactory nerve go through?
The olfactory foramina of the cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone.
Where does the olfactory nerve nerve take the information?
To the olfactory bulb
Where are the receptors of the optic nerve found and what kind of receptors is it?
The receptors are photoreceptors and are found in the retina.
What kind of fiber is the optic CN?
SSA (special somatic afferent)
What kind of sensation is registered by the optic nerve?
Vision.
What kind of nerve is the optic CN?
The Optic CN is a sensory nerve.
What foramina does the Optic CN go through?
The optic CN goes through the optic canal of the sphenoid bone.
Where is the origin of the oculomotor?
The midbrain
What kind of functions does the oculomotor CN control?
Eye movement, eyelid movement, accomadation and pupil size.
What kind of nerve is the oculomotor nerve?
Motor nerve
What foramina does the oculomotor nerve go through?
The superior orbital fissure.
Where is the origin of the trochlear CN?
The midbrain.
What kind of nerve is the trochlear CN?
Motor nerve.
What kind of function does the trochlear CN control?
Downward movement of eyeball. Keeps the eyeball from moving upwards into the orbit.
What foramina does the Trochlear CN go through?
The superior orbital fissure.
Where is the origin of the trigeminal CN?
The trigeminal nerve originates from three sensory nuclei (mesencephalic, principal sensory, spinal nuclei of trigeminal nerve) and one motor nucleus (motor nucleus of the trigeminal nerve) extending from the midbrain to the medulla.
