Cranial nerves Flashcards
Nerve I
Olfactory: smell
Nerve II
Optic = vision
Nerve III
Oculomotor = eyelid and eyeball movement
Nerve IV
Trochlear = innervates superior oblique
turns eye downward and laterally
Nerve V
Trigeminal (sensory) = chewing face & mouth touch & pain.
Senses dust on your cornea
Nerve VI
Abducens = turns eye laterally (lateral rectus eye muscle) ab = away from, and ducere = to lead.
Nerve VII
Facial = controls most facial expressions
secretion of tears & saliva taste.
(Controls orbicularis oculi to close eyelid)
Nerve VIII
Vestibulocochlear (auditory) = hearing
equillibrium sensation
Nerve IX
Glossopharyngeal = taste, senses carotid blood pressure.
The glossopharyngeal nerve allows perception of taste on the hindmost portion of the tongue, delivers the sensations of pain and touch from the throat and tongue, and exerts control over the muscles used during swallowing.
Nerve X
Vagus = senses aortic blood pressure slows heart rate stimulates digestive organs taste
Nerve XI
Spinal Accessory = controls trapezius & sternocleidomastoid controls swallowing movements
Nerve XII
Hypoglossal = controls tongue movements
Cranial Nerve III (what eye muscles innervates?)
Oculomotor medial rectus muscle, superior rectus muscle, inferior rectus muscle, inferior oblique muscle
Cranial Nerve IV (what eye muscles innervates?)
Trochlea
Superior oblique muscle
Cranial Nerve VI (what eye muscles innervates?)
Abducens
Lateral Rectus muscle
