Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Olfactory Nerve
CN1, carries information for smell. Does not go through the thalamus. Information is carried from the pyriform cortex to the olfactory bulb via the olfactory tract.
Optic Nerve
CN2, carries information for sight. Goes through the thalamus.
Oculomotor Nerve
CN3, every other movement apart from superior oblique and lateral rectus.
Trochlear Nerve
CN4, superior oblique muscle, carries information from when the eye looks laterally down.
Abducens Nerve
CN6, lateral rectus- takes in information from when the eye moves laterally.
Trigeminal Nerve
CN5, Sensory information from the face. Motor is chewing.
Facial Nerve
CN7, Sends motor signals to all the muscles in the face; allows for facial expressions.
Vestibulocochlear Nerve
CN8, Combo of vestibular (balance) and cochlear nerve.
Glossopharyngeal Nerve
CN 9, Mixed- there is sensory (detecting things in the pharynx) and motor (swallowing in the pharynx)
Vagus Nerve
CN10, sends info to visceral organs. Mixed sensory and motor- messages go all the way down to the abdomen.
Accessory Nerve
CN11, move head and neck muscles.
Hypoglossal Nerve
CN12, motor only to the tongue.
Oh once one takes the anatomy final very good vacations are heavenly!
