What were the stonewall riots?
Jennex refferring to stonewall inn in greenwich NY in 1969
Stonewall in was a gay bar in nyc
FBI could get queer people fired, arrested and/or admitted into psychiatric institutions
Peoples clothing was searched and had to be wearing at least 3 pieces of gender appropriate clothing… they had bras and panties checked
Police raided the inn in 1969
Started a riot with police trapped in the inn and getting chased down the streers
Riots continued
Start to gay pride parades; gay movements
Drag queens took to the street “no more shit” - said this to the police
Inception of pride: taking back the streets
Not needing to hide in the night anymore

Response to police brutality in raiding gay public space (here, the bathhouses)
People blocked the streets and called for an end both to police brutality and ongoing discrimination
Police forced people to stand naked, and were beaten before taken into custody
A toronto officer said “too bad these showers were not hooked up to gasoline”
Lesbian and gay community responded by also rioting with 3000 protesters taking to the streets the following night
Even tho homosexuality was no longer illegal, those people still faced so much discrimination in the media, through bullying
