When was the Khilafat movement and when was it?
1919
Was set up to support the caliph of Turkey after WW1 and legitimised Muslim participation in any nationalist movement
Was the Khilafat movement successful?
By 1923 the movement collapsed.
Turkey rejected the caliphate and became a secular state so the reason behind all this was gone
Muslims also became uncomfortable with Gandhis leadership
What was separateness?
The idea that both Hindus and Muslims have equal rights to carry out their beliefs no matter offences
What did Jinnah propose at the 1927 Muslim League meeting?
Jinnah persuaded the League to make an offer of 1/3 of seats in Central Legislatives Assembly but this was rejected by Congress
What were Jinnahs beliefs and aims?
He did not believe in Gandhis mixing of religion and politics and he was not an orthodox muslim
Jinnah supported separatism and started identifying himself more and more with muslim cause
