A

his methods of combining spiritual strength and political awareness were very popular and Congress could not oppose him as Besant had little cause, Tilak died in 1920 and Gokhale died in 1915- there was no one like him

What were some failures of non cooperation satyagraha?

A

millions were unwilling or unable to understand satyagraha. Violence broke out in different places
Eg Bombay hartal led to 4 days of rioting
In malaba, muslim moplahs killed british people and rich hindus and muslims

1922 when a mob of Congress supporters torched a police station in Chauri Chaura in Gorakhpur killing 22 and Gandhi was sentenced to 6 six years in prison
