Define what Continuing Professional Development is?
The process by which individual registrants keep themselves up to date in order to maintain the highest standards of professional practice
CPD Cycle: Learning that starts at Reflection
What does Reflection mean?
Reflection: Looking back and evaluating what has happened
What is Reflective Practice?
Application of reflection with the intention of improving our professional practice.
Steps of the CPD cycle?
- Reflection
- Planning
- Action
- Evaluation
What is Planning?
- Setting a realistic time frame for learning
- Impact/Importance of the learning on you and other?
- How will you meet the needs identified?
- Advantages and Disadvantages of a range of learning styles
What is Action?
Carrying out the learning activities within the time frame. Describe what you have learnt.
What is Evaluation?
Describe how you applied what you have learnt and how this has benefited your practice.
Have you achieved all outcomes? What is there left?
Action vs Reflection
Action: Unplanned and single activity
Reflection: Planned, multiple activities and more in depth learning
GPhC Requirements
- Call for a review every 5 years
- Min 9 enteries per year
- Records must be legible and on approved GPhC documentation - electronic or paper
- Must record how the CPD task has contributed to quality or development of your practice
Why does the GPhC review cpd records?
To ensure Cpds complies with minimum requiremnts and standards.
Pharmacy professionals maintain and improve the quality of their practice by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date and relevant to their roles.
What does the Learning Portfolio consist of?
It is a collection of evidence for learning that the GPhC may request.
