CPAR Flashcards
The art of today
- Produced by artists who are living
in the 21st century. - Their art is a dynamic combination
of materials, methods, concepts,
and subjects - Challenge traditional boundaries
CONTEMPORARY ART
Emphasizes innovation and experimentation with new forms, techniques, and materials. It relates to the present or recent times as opposed to the remote past
MODERN ART
The building blocks or ingredients of art.
THE ELEMENTS OF ART
A mark with length and direction. A continuous mark made on a surface by a moving point. (elements of art)
LINE
DESCRIPITIVE or IMPLIED….
Line
are generally restful, like the horizon, where the sky meets the land.
What type of line?
Horizontal lines
as depicted in art forms are lines that show reach or peak as well as height
What type of line?
Vertical lines
present in art tend convey a feeling of
movement.
Objects that are in diagonal
position are unstable.
What type of line?
Diagonal lines
it sets an idea that an object is either already
in motion or about to fall.
diagonal lines
tend to be found in nature and are very organic.
What type of line?
Expressive Lines
Other lines that are very measured, geometric,
directional and angular are called
Constructive lines
They tend to appear to be man-made because of their precision.
What type of line?
Constructive lines
Consists of Hue (another word for color), Intensity (brightness) and Value (lightness or darkness).
COLOR
(BLANK) in visual arts pertains to the lightness and darkness of tones or colors.
Value
White being the (blank) value;
Black being the (blank).
lightest and darkest
(BLANK) when you use irregular lengths of
parallel lines that cross over each other diagonally. The closer together the lines are placed, the darker the value.
(Techniques to achieve Value)
Cross-hatching
(BLANK) is the use of dots to create shade. This is accomplished by placing dots very close together to create dark values and farther apart to create lighter values.
(Techniques to achieve Value)
Stippling
(BLANK) is when you use your pencil to create soft gradual movements from one value to the next using full value range.
(Techniques to achieve Value)
Soft shading
An enclosed area defined and determined
by other art elements; 2-dimensional.
(elements of art)
SHAPE
Usually shapes from nature are said to be (BLANK) and man-made shapes are more (BLANK)
ORGANIC and GEOMETRIC
the element of art that is three-dimensional and has volume (length, width, and
height). A (BLANK) can be geometric
or organic.
(element of arts)
FORM
The distance or area between, around, above, below, or within things.
(elements of arts)
S P A C E
used when the artist has objects very close to the viewer.
(type of space)
Shallow space
may show objects up close but objects
are shown far away too
(type of space)
Deep Space
