4 undermine public confidence in the police
5 allow criminal activity to remain undetected/protected/ or even allow new crimes to be committed
6 can be considered a ‘secret tax’ costing millions a year in wasted resources
Types of corruption?
Gratuities
Bribes- accepting money to not enforce the law
Theft and burglary
Internal corruption- falsifying evidence, bribes to obtain promotion
Brutality- force to intimidate citizens

What is the process of becoming corrupt?
PROCESS of SELF LABELLING that takes place along a CONTINUUM. Start good but as they receive small gratuities they start to go down a SLIPPERY SLOPE from good to bad; REACTIVE ACCEPTING TO PROACTIVE DEMANDING.
