Correlations Flashcards

1
Q

Correlational analysis ?

A
  • Used to investigate a link between 2 co variables
  • Used when impossible to conduct an experiment(eg;unethical to increase real life exposure to violence)
  • cannot Infer cause and effect-no manipulation of the IV.

Q

Reliability of correlations?

A

+Reliable if measures of both variables are consistent
+Using scientific scales such as volume or time increases reliability
-Measures using self reports lowers reliability

Q

Strengths of correlational analysis?

A

+conducted when experiments would be impractical or unethical
+Demonstrates the presence/Absence of a relationship

Q

Weaknesses of correlational analysis ?

A
  • Cannot Infer cause and effect-extraneous variables can be responsible for relationship found
  • Used only with variables that can be measured on a scale
