Correlation Flashcards
What do error bars show?
The standard deviation of the data
How are error bars drawn?
At an equal length of either side of the data
What does the overlap of error bars indicate?
A difference between sets of data is not statistically significant
How do you calculate range bars?
Taking smallest value from the largest
What do range bars show?
The smallest value at the bottom and the largest at the top
How are range bars drawn?
On a graph or bar chart and they are not always an equal length below and above data
What is a correlation?
It indicates that there is a relationship between 2 sets of data
What are the types of correlation?
Positive, negative or no correlation
What is no correlation?
There is no relationship so no line of best fit line can be drawn
What is a positive correlation?
As one set of data increases in value, so does the other and the best fit line goes upwards
What is a negative correlation?
As one set of data increases, the other set decreases and the best fit line goes downwards
What is a strong correlation?
Data is very close to best fit line
What is a weak correlation?
Data is widely spread out from the line
What is a weak correlation?
Data is widely spread out from the line
What is correlation coefficient?
It measures the strength of a linear relationship and ranges from -1 to 1
