What is chlorosis?
Leaves look pale or yellow because cells are not producing enough chlorophyll
What is the effect of chlorosis?
It reduces the plants ability to make food by photosynthesis
What are environmental factors that affect chlorosis?
Lack of light, mineral deficiencies and virus infections
What happens as a result of lack of light?
In the absence of light, plants turn off chlorophyll production to conserve resources and chlorosis only occur when plant gets no light
What is the effect of mineral deficiencies?
A lack of iron which is needed as a cofactor for enzymes that make chlorophyll or magnesium which is found inside chlorophyll
What is the effect of viruses?
The interfere with the metabolism of cells and infected tissue can yellow and not support chlorophyll synthesis
How is body mass a result of environmental factors?
Dramatic size variation
