Coronary circulation in health and disease. Flashcards
In which layer of the heart do the coronary arteries lie?
Epicardium, send branches to the myocardium.
What does the Epicardium of the heart comprise of?
Mainly connective tissue and fat.
What does the myocardium consist of?
Muscle.
What is Trans mural myocardial infarction?
A myocardial infarction associated with atherosclerosis. Extend through the entire thickness of the heart muscle.
What is a Subendocardial myocardial infarction?
As the name implies.
Which region of the heart is most vulnerable to ischemia?
Subendocardium. May because of smaller vessels and less collaterals.
Divisions and supply of the left coronary artery?
-
Divisions and supply of the right coronary artery?
-
Where do most of the venous blood in the heart accumilate?
Coronary sinus.
How is blood flow to the heart controlled?
Dialation of the Coronary atery is managed.
Name the cardiac veins.
Anterior cardiac vein, small cardiac vein, middle cardiac vein, great cardiac vein. All converge to the Coronary sinus.
What is the main driving factor behind coronary circulation?
Myocardial oxygen consumption. When this is high there is coronary vasodilation.
How much of the cardiac output is siphoned to the heart?
250ml.
Mechanisms of blood vessel occlusion.
Mechanical narrowing, plaque rupture.
