- Teach client what to expect during and after surgery
- Type and crossmatch 4 or more units of blood
- teach patient relating to cardiac recovery unit, tubes and drains, monitoring equipment, respiratory support, incisions and dressings, and pain management.

post operative care for coronary artery bypass graft relating to decreased cardiac output
A
- monitor vital signs every 15 minutes.
- Auscultate heart and breath sounds every 4 hours. A third heart sound is an early sign of heart failure a fourth heart sound could be decreased ventricular compliance. Muffled heart sounds indicates cardiac tamponade.
- Assess skin color, temperature, peripheral pulses, and level of consciousness.
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms.
- Measure intake and output hourly.
- Record chest tube output hourly.
- Monitor H & H as well as electrolytes
- IV fluids fluid bolus and blood transfusions should be administered
- Administer medications such as dopamine nitroglycerin as well as antiarrhythmics 10. Keep temporary pacemaker at bedside
