Q

Giving up (Behavorial Disengagement)

A

Kind of llke Learned Helplessness
Me frfr frfrfrfrfrfrfrffrfrfrfrfrfffffrrrr

Heuristic - mental shortcuts
Schema - categories, social roles, situations

Internal vs External
External is more pessimestic and rely more on giving up
Because they don’t have control

I just gave up tryna answer the question lmao

Mantain self esteem, mantain value in society
If we can’t mantain something, givnfmg//////…..

View it as more readjusting your goals than giving up

Q

Acting Aggresively

A

Behavior intended to hurt someone either physically or verbally

Frusteration Agressive hypothesis, when people get frusteration they need to release this pent up frusteuration in order to cope and feel better
People who are frusterated are more likely to become aggresive
Like roadrage

Displacement
DIsplace that anger or dursteration on something or someone else even thought they’re not the cause of this anger/frusteration

When people are frusterated or angry and they act out on it, it makes them angrier hnmmmmmmmmmmm npoppppp[oooooooo I FELT BETTER.

These experiments sound fucking fun you just get to manpulate people and make them mad about controversial topics in the name of science

Experimenting on me wouldn’t work because I would know they’re testing something and I couldn’t react to anything naturally if anything I’d wanna do the opposite of what they’d expect or do what I want the results to be

Reinforcement yay

Motivation, creativity, fuel, social justice, CHANGE

I also think it can be used as a defense mechanism, he hasn’t talked about that yet
Like if YOU feel threatened, even if there is not threat, you do it back like revenge
(I wonder who I learned that from -w-)

Q

MINDLESS SELF INDULGENGE

A

Stress can lead to poor impulse control
Rely on self indulgence
Self regulation

Prefrontal cortex impacted by constant stress
It is related to logic, rational, planning, reasoning

Dysfunction in dopamine and reward system
DO something good and get a reward, this part of the
Nucleus ….
When this is sensitive, pre-frontal cortex becames minimized
Overly active when stress
Addictive kind of behaviors
Like when you’re stressed, you eat something
Or procrasinate

Ego depletion theory
We have a limited ability to self regulate
If there is one thing we need to regulate, our ability to regulate in other areas are limited
So liike the capactiy to regulate at one time

Q

3 most commonn types of internet addiction addiction

A

Shopping
Excessive gaming - ROBUX 💀
Sexual content
Obsesive socializing (socia media and texting) plus seeking validation and clout
-Also maybe gambling

Social support is good but this is overelying

Variable ratiio
If people engage in something for a long enough time, something will happen but the timing and amount is ambiguous
Like gambling
You know if you play long enough, you will win
But you don’t know when
This is similar to playing like trying to win and when you lose you will keep playing to prove you and others rsihgfsrg

Q

Defensinsive Coping

A

Defense Mechanism - largely unconsious reactions that protect a person from unpleasen emptions such as anxierty and guilt
Sheild us from emotional discomfort caused by stress
However, most involve a degree of self-deception, a distortion of reality
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm no.

Denial - student allows her family to plan a trip to her graduation even though she is failing a class required for graduation
Fantasy - An unpopular man imagines that he has an extensive network of outgoing and popular friends
Intellectualization (real, but my feelings are gone now so that is all that’s there) - dealing with difficulties by looking at them in a detached abstract way, thus supressing one’s emotional reaction -over-analytical
Undoing - attempting to counteract feelings of guilt through acts of attonement. LIke adressing the issue without adressing the issues. Daughter insults her mom but compliments her right after. Tryna make it up to the person without apologizing
Overcompensation - Making up for real or imagined deficeinties by focusing or exaggerating desirable characteristics. A transfer student doesn’t have friends so he makess sureto excell in all his classes or something
Fake it till you make it - facts bro

Cognitive dissonence either accept what you’re hearing or reject it

Non-depressed people have overly favorable self-concepts and depressedhave shpwn less favorable (more realstic) self-concepts
NOn depressed tend to overestimate how much control they have over situation
They have unrealistic optimism about the future predictions

In conclusion,
Small illustions are good,(disagree tbh)
Extreme self-deception is bad

Ideal self and real self and ought self
I’M CONFUSED ENOUGH WITH ONE SELF I DON’T NEED THREE TO HAVE AN IDENTITY CRISES OVER
