Coordination And Control Flashcards
Where are receptors found?
Sense organs
What are some stimuli?
Sound, chemicals, temperature changes, touch, pain and light
How does the message from the receptors reach the brain?
Electrical impulses that pass along neutrons
What are the sense organs?
Eye, ear,nose, tongue, skin
What do the brain and spinal cord form?
Central nervous system
What do nerves contain?
Neutrons
What are neurons?
Nerve cells which are found in nerves
What do motor neurone do?
Carry impulses from the CNS to effector organs which may be muscles or glands which respond by contracting or the glands respond by secreting chemicals
What are the steps involved in a reflex action?
A receptor detects a stimulus A sensory neurone transmits the impulse to the CNS A relay neurone passes the impulse on A motor neuron is stimulated The impulse passes to an effector Action is taken
What is in the junction between two neurons?
A synapse
Describe what happens at a synapse when an impulse arrives.
impulse / information passes from one neurone to another
or impulse / information passes across gap
• chemical / transmitter involved
• diffusion (across gap)
Where if FSH produced?
Pituitary gland
What does FSH do?
Causes eggs to mature
Causes Oestrogen to be produced
Where is oestrogen produced?
Ovaries
What does oestrogen do?
Inhibits further FSH production and stimulates LH production and stimulates the womb lining to receive the fertilised egg
Where is LH produced?
Pituitary gland
What does LH do?
Stimulates the mature egg to be released from the ovary
What will the contraceptive pill contain?
Oestrogen and progesterone
