converging or diverging + the eye Flashcards
magnify glass?
converging lense
microscope?
converging
what is chromatic aberation?
dispersion of light through a lens, the edges of the lens act as a prism, splitting light into various colours
what is spherical aberation?
lights rays do not pass through the focal point in a converging lens, creating a distorting image
Cameras are extremely similar too….
the human eye
What is the cornea?
the transparent part of the eye
refracts light into your eye, helping you focus
cannot change shape/focal point
What is the iris?
the colour bit in ur eye
opens and closes the pupil (a hole)
What is the lens
converging lens, a muscle that changes shape, which changes the focal distance of the eye, creating a clear image at the retina
how do human eyes focus?
long distance object = relax
short distance object = squinting (short and wide)
What is the retina
layer of light senetive neruons on the back of ur eye (lining)
converts light into chemical images
what are the 2 photo receptors?
rods (low light)
cones (colours)
common causes of poor vision
1) incorrect shape of eyeball
2) incorect shape of cornea
3) harden of the lense
how can you correct poor vision?
1) contact lenss
2) surgery
3) glasses
What is myopia?
Near Sightedness
*Long eyeball
results in image
formation in front
of the retina
*Can’t see far from
eyes (blurry image)
what can myopia be corrected by?
diverging lenses, because the light rays spread out before they reach the eye
