Control of GI tract Flashcards
what is the Gastrocolic reflex?
presence of food entering the stomach causes the colon to push matter further along
what is Gastrin released from?
mucosal cells in the stomach
when is Gastrin Released?
presence of food in the stomach
what does the release of Gastrin from mucosal cells cause?
stimulates secretion of HCl and causes Pepsinogen to be released
increases stomach motility
what is Pepsinogen released from?
Chief Cells
what actually is Pepsinogen?
inactive precursor of Pepsin
- which digests proteins
what are 2 hormones are released as Chyme enters the duodenum?
CCK and Secretin
what does Secretin do?
causes:
- Pancreas to release Bicarbonate
- Stomach to decrease motility and pepsinogen release
what does CCK do?
causes:
- Pancreas to release Lipase
- Gallbladder to contract and push bile down the cystic duct and the common bile duct into the mid-duodenum
- Stomach to decrease motility
what specific thing in Chyme causes Secretin secretion?
HCl (acidic part of chyme)
what specific thing in Chyme causes CCK secretion?
Fat in chyme
Lipase breaks down lipids and gallbladder secretes things to emulsify fat
