Control of Eye Movements Flashcards
Saccadic system is for fast or slow movements
is voluntary or involuntar
fast
voluntary
Diplopia =
double vision; a neurologic issue
what causes diplopia
image not resting of fovea of each eye, d/t msucle, NMJ, nerve or CNS disorder
Blurred vision or decreased visual acquity could be
neorological or non-neurological
Nystagmus is often d/t a defect of
slow eye movement system~~~ d/t impaired VOR
Verticle nystagmus is always
while a horizontal /rotational nystagmus
CNS lesion
peripheral or CNS
involuntary = keeps object on fovea during sustained head rotation
Optokinetic system:
involuntary and coordinates eye/head movements to stabalize object on fovea
Vestibular system:
Slow eye movements have 3 parts:
Smooth: voluntary
Vestibulo-ocular; involuntary
optikokinetics; involuntary
