1. Read Physician Orders / Check Protocols / and read pertinent data/notes
2. Gather / Prepare equipment / devices
3. Identify patient; Introduces self to family; Explain purpose of O2 therapy
4. Wash / Sanitize hand and applies appropriate PPE
5. Assesses patient before beginning therapy
6. Sets up hood with appropriate amount of flow and drainage bag
7. Provides a Neutral Thermic Environment (NTE) and analyze FiO2 before placing patient in hood
8. Adjusts flow and check placement of aerosol
9. Reassesses patient
10. Confirms patient safety and comfort; Cleans up area; Washes / Sanitize hands

Bubble CPAP (Comp 2)

Procedure Steps
1. Confirms physician’s orders and obtains equipment
2. Washes / Gels hands
3. identifies infant, introduces self to family and explains purpose of procedure
4. Assembles equipment (Slides chamber on to the humidifier base, connect water bag, fills bubble CPAP generator, connects bubble CPAP pressure manifold and breathing circuit) Temperature should be set to approximately 36-37 degrees Celsius
5. Place correct settings and sets appropriate alarms, sets flow rate between 6 to 8 L/min (can go between 4 to 15 L/min if indicated) Set the CPAP level based on depth of the CPAP tubing
6. Measure infant for proper interface and connects
7. Confirms CPAP pressure and infant’s tolerance to settings; Makes any necessary adjustments
8. Assures proper equipment is at bedside and communicates to nursing staff of settings infant is on
9. Thanks family, washes / gels hand
10. Cleans area and documents CPAP Round

9. Assures that the proper level of vacuum is provided
10. Provides oxygen and hyperinflates prior to suctioning per protocol
11. Performs steps in accordance with “Safe Suction”. Explains this to preceptor
12. Confirms tip of the catheter is not occluding the airway
13. Assesses patient for any adverse effects and is well oxygenated t/o procedure
14. Reassesses patient after procedure
15. Cleans up area
16. Thanks family, assures patient’s safety and needs
17. Disposes of PPE, Hand Wash and Hand Sanitize

3. Ensures emergency replacement airway of same size and type is at bedside
4. Identifies patient; Introduces self to family; Explains purpose of procedure
5. Utilizes and maintains standard precaution as required
6. Assesses patient and verifies airway before beginning procedure
7. Stabilizes airway while removing fastenings
8. Cleans and dries patient’s face
9. Moves tube to new location (ETT)
10. Reinflates cuff with maximum volume of 10 mL or as indicated my manufacturer (if applicable)
11. Secures new ties/tapes/commercial tube holder, applies skin protection product if indicated
12. Verifies appropriate position auscultation and tube markings
13. Suctions tube and pharynx thoroughly
14. Reassesses patient
15. Confirms patient safety and comfort; cleans up area; washes/gel hands and documents appropriately
