Control Comp #2 (Clyinders-Regulators-Flowmeters, LVN, O2 Analyzers) Flashcards

1
Q

Cylinders, Regulators, Flowmeters (Comp 2)
(9 Steps)

A

PROCEDURAL STEPS
1. Selects appropriate cylinder and appropriate regulator and wrench (Read Label, Green Tank = O2)
2. Demonstrates proper handling of cylinder and proper transport (Needs to be secure in a cart)
3. Demonstrates or states the importance of cracking cylinder (WARN PEOPLE BEFORE CRACKING: Use wrench to turn on valve quickly to blow out any debris
4. Demonstrates or states how to place Regulator on Cylinder
5. Trouble shoots cylinder to ensure no leaks; corrects if necessary (Leaks due to Regulator on wrong or not tighten all the way)
6. Demonstrates or states how to close Cylinder Valve and Bleed the Pressure from Regulator
7. Returns the Cylinder to its original place of storage
FLOWMETERS
1. Connects flowmeter correctly to wall outlet; detects and corrects any leaks
2. Adjusts liter flow

Q

Equation to Determine: How much time there is of O2 in a Cylinder. Using Tank Pressure * V-P Factor / Liter Flow. Example: 2000 psi, E cylinder, 3 L Flow

A

2000 psi * .28 Factor= 560
560 / 3 L Flow = 186.66
186.66 / 60 min = 3.11
.11 min * 60 sec = 6.6
Answer is 3 hours and 6 minutes

Q

Oxygen Analyzer
“Rules of Thumb”

A
  1. If patient is set at 50% FiO2 or greater than calibrate to 21% first then 100% second
  2. If patient is set at 49.9% FiO2 or lower than calibrate to 100% first then 21% second
  • When Calibrating the 100%. Use a 5 L/Flow
*Once you have calibrated the Oxygen Analyzer you want to ensure your accurate within 2%
18
Q

Room Air Oxygen %
Cylinder Air Oxygen % per Liter for Nasal Canula (NC)

A
  1. Room Air has 21% Oxygen
  2. Cylinder Air for 1L has 24% Oxygen For NC
*For every liter of air in Cylinder the Oxygen % Increases by 4%
  3. Cylinder Air for 2L has 28% Oxygen NC
  4. Cylinder Air for 3L has 32% Oxygen NC
  5. Cylinder Air for 4L has 36% Oxygen NC
