what are some VBI (vertebrobasilar insufficiency) red flags?
dysarthria - difficulty speaking
dysphagia - difficulty swallowing
diplopia - visual disturbances
dizziness
drop attacks - fainting
nystagmus - flickering of the eyes
nausea
ataxia - abnormal muscle control / movement
what are some malignancy red flags?
night sweats
unrelenting pain
unexplained weightloss
constant, general unwellness
pain that has no specific cause
what are some Cauda Equine Syndrome red flags?
bilateral saddle, or inner thigh numbness
bladder or bowel problems
sharp, bilateral pain down the legs
lower back pain
what is VBI?
vertebrobasilar insufficiency
what is VBI caused by?
excessive or quick cervical rotation
how do you test VBI?
client on supine or seated, head rotated and neck extended. then hold for 10s and count out loud
return clients’ heads to the neutral position. hold for to 10 and count out loud
client extends their head and holds the position for 10 whilst counting out loud
and repeat
what does caveat mean?
a warning to consider something before taking any more action. let the client know that if you feel that the treatment could harm them further than helping them
