Contraction Types Flashcards
What are the 5 main muscle types ?
Iscotonic Concentric Eccentric Ismometric Isokinetic
What is isotonic split into ?
Concentric and eccentric
Isotonic definition ?
Contractions are those which cause muscle to change length as it contracts
What does concentric produce less and more on?
More on strength
Less on hypertrophy
Concentric definition ?
Muscle shortens and thickens and origin and insertion move towards each other
What can increase concentric ?
Reps
Sets of completed
Resistance sufficient
What is isometric gd and bad at?
Improving strength
Not functional power
What can increase intensity for isometric ?
Sufficient resistance
Sets of complete
Complete reps
Definition of isometric ?
Mean equal length, length of muscle doesn’t change but there is change in tone
Example isokinetic ?
Breast stroke in swimming water provides constant, even resistance to movement of adduction
What is used to measure isokinetic?
Isokinetic dynamometer
Definition of isokinetic?
Contractions are similar to isotonic in that muscle changes length during contraction, where they differ is that isokinetic contractions produce movements of constant speed
What may increase eccentric ?
Sufficient reps
Resistance
Sets are complete
What is eccentric an important factor for ?
In promoting cell re building more damage in muscle also increases likelihood of delayed onset of muscle soreness (Dom’s)
Definition of eccentric?
Muscles become larger and thinner as origin and insertion move away from each other
