Contemporary cell based coagulation cascade Flashcards
1
Q
The contemporary cell based cascade consists of three phases which are?
A
- Initiation
- Amplification
- Propagation
2
Q
Initiation phase
A
- TF/7a activate the common pathway
- Limited amount of thrombin is formed due to production of tissue factor inhibitor (TFPI)
- Amount of thrombin produced is inadequate to activate fibrin.
3
Q
Amplification
A
Small amount of thrombin produced amplifies cascade by activation plt 5 and 11 laying groundwork for large scale thrombin production.
4
Q
Propagation phase
A
Large amounts of thrombin is produced
Begins at the activation of factor 10 by factors 8 and 9 on the surface of plt
Produces a positive feedback mechanism resulting in enough thrombin to activate fibrin
