Q

Initiation phase

A
  • TF/7a activate the common pathway
  • Limited amount of thrombin is formed due to production of tissue factor inhibitor (TFPI)
  • Amount of thrombin produced is inadequate to activate fibrin.

Q

Amplification

A

Small amount of thrombin produced amplifies cascade by activation plt 5 and 11 laying groundwork for large scale thrombin production.

Q

Propagation phase

A

Large amounts of thrombin is produced

Begins at the activation of factor 10 by factors 8 and 9 on the surface of plt

Produces a positive feedback mechanism resulting in enough thrombin to activate fibrin
