What is a CONSUMER RIGHT?
It is when you can buy goods and expect them to be satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described
You don’t have rights If:
- You were informed of any faults
- You damaged the goods yourself
- You don’t like it’s style/size when it arrived
- You changed your mind about the goods
- if you’ve seen them cheaper elsewhere
What are your rights over a PRIVATELY PURCHASED GOOD?
Do not have the same cover although you do have the right for it to be as described.
What the you entitled to if the goods are DAMAGED WHEN SOLD?
- A full refund
- Compensation
- Repair or Replacement
- Reduction in price
What are the legislations that protect the consumer?
- Trades description Act 1968/1972
- Food & Drink Act 1955
- Weights & Measures Act 1963
- Consumer Safety Act 1978
- The consumer protection (distance selling) regulations 2000
What is the FOOD & DRUGS ACT 1955?
= food and drugs must be labelled correctly and produced in hygienic conditions
What is the WEIGHTS & MEASURES ACT 1963?
= weight of product bought is accurate. It protects the consumer from goods of wrong size
What is the CONSUMER SAFETY ACT 1978?
= protects consumers from goods which are dangerous, other than foods/drugs
What are the CODES OF PRACTICE in a TRADE ASSOCIATION?
- Servicing & repairs = speedy
- Repairs must be paid for by retailer
- Details on all charges provided to consumer
- Estimations are quick
- Complaints are dealt with fairly & quickly
