What is the cross section of a carriageway?
Surface course (25-50mm), Binder course (50-100mm), sub-base and base (~200mm each)
Will vary slightly depending on the type of carriageway (type 0 to 4) in accordance with SROH (based on MSA - millions of standard axles)
Can you give an example of a sustainable solution on the LFFN project?
Pre-formed chambers made of GRP - recyclable material:
- less machinery
- less wet trades
- faster and cheaper
- less repetitive movement
Can you talk me through the process of installing a duct?
Once other utilities have been identified using CAT and genny, the process for installing new civil ducting is:
a. Break out existing surface with a jackhammer and a roadsaw
b. Excavate using an excavator or hand dig (depending on width restrictions) – utilities will be laid ~350mm deep
c. Compact bottom of the trench using a compact rammer
d. Lay type 1 hardcore bedding and the ducting in the trench
e. Run upvc / hdpe pipe and fibre optic cable through trenches and fibre joint / core into existing chamber
f. Backfill using excavated material
g. Make good with new surface course
What were the cost savings associated with re-routing the ducting?
~£7k - rate for laying in CW compared to FW & V is significantly higher + TM costs
You mention you are aware of the legislation and regulations that apply to telecoms and gas assets, can you pick out some of the regulations?
