3rd amendment
Prohibits the forced quartering of soldiers during times of peace.
2nd amendment
Protects the right to bear arms
4th amendment
Prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures.
Requires a search warrant based on probable cause.
**implies right to privacy
5th amendment
Protects against double jeopardy.
Any person cannot be forced to testify against themselves/ make a self incriminating statement.
(I plead the fifth.)
6th amendment
The accused has:
the right to know what/why they’re being accused of.
the right to a lawyer (and in criminal cases will be provided one if he/she cannot provide one for themselves)
the right to a trial by jury.
the right to have witnesses on their behalf.
the right to confront said witnesses.
*ensures due process
10th amendment
Powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved for the States.
13th amendment
Outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude
14th amendment
States cannot deny citizenship to any person born or naturalized in the US.
States cannot deny equal protection under the law.
States cannot deny life, liberty, or property without due process.
15th amendment
The right to vote cannot be denied due to race, color, or previous conditional servitude.
17th amendment
Voters in each state elect their own senators.
18th amendment
Prohibited the manufacturing and sale of alcohol
19th amendment
The right to vote cannot be denied due to sex.
**Gave women the right to vote
21st amendment
Repealed the 18th amendment, made alcohol legal again.
22nd amendment
The President cannot serve more than 2 terms or exceed 10 years.
23rd amendment
Provides Washington D.C with 3 votes in the electoral college
