Consequences of Ageing population Structure Flashcards
Life expectancy
In the UK today, when a person retires at 65 they are expected to live for another 20 years atleast.
Aged dependant
More pressure on working population to provide the money required to support retired population.
Demand for services
There will be less demand for services such as maternity, healthcare, nursery and primary education.
Dealing with it
Need to raise the retirement age, and possibly raise tax contributions from active working population.
Need for more services
With so many older people it is recognised that there will be a greater need for provisions of geriatric care all of which will lead to extra costs for individuals, local authorities and the government.
Robots
There could be an increase in robots filling gaps in the workforce, due to more people retiring.
