Red irritated eye
Purulent discharge
How is bacterial conjunctivitis managed?
Antibiotic eye drops = chloramphenicol

Acute

How does viral conjunctivitis present?
Red eye
Watery discharge
Enlarged pre-auricular lymph nodes
How is viral conjunctivitis managed?
Lubricant eye drops
What advice should you give to patients with acute conjunctivitis?
Bathe eyes with cooled boiled water
Avoid contact lenses
Avoid sharing towels etc
When should patients with viral/bacterial conjunctivitis seek further help?
Reduced visual acuity
Photophobia
Eyelid swelling
What is the onset of allergic conjunctivitis?
Chronic - usually seasonal
Is allergic conjunctivitis normally uni or bilateral?
Bilateral
How does allergic conjunctivitis present?
Red itchy eye
Watery discharge
Family history of atopy
