What are the risks of VZV infection in a Pregnant mother
- In first Trimester can lead to hypopasia of fetal limbs
- At birth can lead to disseminated infection in blood leading to 30% mortality
What are the Statistical risks of CMV infection in a Pregnant mother
- Primary infection in 1% off women leading to 20-50% fetal infection
- reactivation in 10-30% of women that leads to 1% infection.
- If baby is infected 90% will be asymptomatic (10-15% have long term sequlaee)while 10% will be infected and have long term sequelae.
What occurs in long term sequelae of CMV
Sensory-neural deafness, rash, hepatospleenomegly, microcephaly, significant morbidity
What are the risks of Rubella infection in a Pregnant mother
- Will present with lymphadenopathy in mothers if infected, early infecton (<4 weeks) is worse for child
- Classic triad of disease if fetus, opthalmological, cardiac and auditory
- of those infected 1/3 are fine, 1/3 are institutionalized and 1/3 have to live with their parents
What are the risks of Parvovirus infection in a Pregnant mother
Can transfer to baby and results in heamorhage, can be treated with intra uteral transfusions. Can lead to cardiac failure and aneamia if not treated
What are the risks of HSV infection in a Pregnant mother
Primary infection is terrible in mothers wtih abortion or pre-term labour
- During delivery can be transfered to baby during delivery and cause Encephalitis and wide spread dissemination. Treat mothes with acyclovir or C-section
What are the risks of Syphilis infection in a Pregnant mother
Leads to stillborn if early, however can lead to snuffles or notched teeth
What are the risks of toxoplasma gondii infection in a Pregnant mother
Can cross the placenta and cause, Rash, Hydrocephalus and Chorioretinitis
Hep B
Can be transferred to babies at birth, due to incomplete immune system will lead to chronic infection.
Hep C
No treatment, drugs to come soon
HIV
HAART therapy to prevent transmission to baby, mainly efficiant oterwise baby has the disease from birth
Grp B streoptcocus (agalatiae) microbiota in mother
- Can lead to pneumonia, sepsis and meningitis and scarlett fever in child
What does TORCH stand for
Toxoplasma, Other, Rubella, CMV and HIV/HepB/HSV
