Preauricular pits and tags
(accessory tragus or branchial cleft remnant)
A
- protuberant fleshy papules or pits located anterior to the tragus
Cause: imperfect fusion of the first 2 branchial arches
Incidence: 1 per 100 births
Associations: cleft palate, ocular coloboma, abnormal digits, cardiac defects
- brachio-otorenal dysplasia: external ear anomalies, brachial fistulae, hearing impairment, renal anomalies
- hemifacial microsomia: tag associated with distortion of the pinna
Referral:
- audiology not required unless associated risk factors of family hx
