- National self interest- Britain and France wanted Italy on side
- Ineffective sanctions- US continued trading with Italy

Britain and France decided to give Italy 2/3 of Abyssinia, this deal was not in the League.

What was the Stresa pact and when was it signed?
1935- The Stresa pact was a pact signed by Italy, France and Britain which formalised a protest against German rearmament. Mussolini believed that France and Britain would turn a blind eye to his actions in Abyssinia if Italy joined them in the Stresa Pact.
What sanctions did the League immediately pose on Italy after its invasion of Abyssinia?
Did ban:
* arms sales to Italy
* loans to Italy
* all imports from Italy
* exporting rubber and metals to Italy
Didn’t ban oil sales until it was too late.
