Conditions Caused by Pulmonary Disease or Injury Flashcards
1
Q
Hypercapnia
A
INCREASED CO2 in the arterial blood. occurs from decreased drive to breathe, or an inadequate ability to respond to ventilatory stimulation.
2
Q
Hypoxemia (in blood)
A
condition where arterial oxygen tension or PaO2 is below normal (normal is 80-100mmHg).
3
Q
Hypoxia(at the tissues)
A
reduction of oxygen supply at the tissue level, which is not measured by a lab value.
4
Q
Acute Respiratory Failure
A
Gas exchange is inadequate (hypoxemia)
PaO2 is <50 mmHg
pH is <7.25
5
Q
Conditions causing hypoxemia
A
1) reduced diffusion distance
2) hyperventilation with hypocapnia
3) ventilation-perfusion mismatch
4) traveling to a low altitude
