Concept Of Intracranial Regulation Flashcards
INTRACRANIAL REGULATION
The processes that affect intracranial compensation and adaptive neurological function
-Regulates and integrates all body functions muscle movements, mental abilities, emotions
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Brain and spinal cord
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Cranial nerves and the spinal nerves
NEURON
Basic cell of the nervous system
MENINGES
Covers the brain and nourish the CNS
FRONTAL LOBE
CEREBRUM
Speech, thought, learning, emotion, and voluntary movement
-Prefrontal vortex of the frontal lobe cognitive processes, such as judgement and reasoning
PARIETAL LOBE
CEREBRUM
Sensory information, temperature, pain, and discrimination of 2 points, such as hot and cold
TEMPORAL LOBE
CEREBRUM
Stores memory and interprets auditory stimuli
-Olfactory cortex of the temporal lobe interprets smell
CEREBELLUM
Muscle movement, balance, and control posture tone; and fine motor skills
THALAMUS
DIENCEPHALON
Relay center of all signals coming to brain
HYPOTHALAMUS
DIENCEPHALON
Autonomic control center, vital signs, pain, pleasure and fear, sleep cycles, food and water intake and balance, and digestive motility
BRAINSTEM
Control reflexes; influences all basic physiological functions (breathing, BP, heart rate) 10 of the 12 cranial nerves
SPINAL CORD
Extension of the brainstem that transmits impulses to and from the brain
RETICULAR ACTIVATING SYSTEM
Diffuse system of neurons located in the thalamus and the brainstem
CIRCADIAN RHYTHM
Responsible for sleeping and wakefulness
