Q

Name, describe and explain the bonding between metals and non-metals

(also strength of bond)

A

IONIC Bonding

  1. Metal atoms lose electrons to form positive ions
  2. Non-metal atoms gain electrons to form negative ions

The opposite charges of the ions means they are STRONGLY ATTRACTED to each other

Q

Name, describe and explain the bonding between non-metals

A

COVALENT Bonding

Compound consists of molecules

Each atom shares an electron with another atom

Each atom has to make up enough bonds to fill its outer shell
