what is a pulmonary embolism
blood clots that form in the deep veins of the legs or pelvis and break loose and travel through the blood stream and lodge in the arteries of the lungs
what is a blus dose
refers to the administration of a relatively large amount of medication or flluid over a short period of time usally in a single dose
what is the purpose of a bolus dose
to rapidly achieve a desired therapeutic effect or response
in context of treating a PE a bolus dose may be used to initiate anticoagulation therapy and prevent further clot formation
what is aPTT
commonly used coagulation test to evaluate a patients clotting function measuring the activity of clotting factors in the blood
