components of connective tissue Flashcards

1
Q

what are the main components of connective tissue

A
  • cells
  • extracellular matrix → fibres + ground substance
  • types of fibres: elastin, collagen, reticular fibres
    • provide strength + durability to tissue
    • embedded in ground substance
  • ground substance - clear viscous gel like substance that fills the space between the cells
    • contains: water, proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycan
  • properties of depend on the balance between cells and extracellular matrix
    • lot of mechanical strength - lots of fibres
    • tissues with protective/metabolism features - more tissues present
